How to Set Up the Croissant Extension

Install and enable the Croissant extension on Chrome or Safari to build your Collection and see buyback values as you shop.

The Croissant extension is the easiest way to build your Collection: as you shop supported retailers, eligible items are added to your Collection automatically, and you can see an item's buyback value before you buy.

The extension is available on Chrome (desktop) and Safari (iPhone). Set up whichever you use below — you only need one to start.

Good to know:

The extension only runs in your browser — it can't run inside a retailer's own app. If tapping a retailer's link ever opens their app instead (you may see an "Open in app?" prompt), choose to stay in your browser so the extension can do its thing.

Safari (iPhone)

Before you start

  1. Install the Croissant app and sign in — the mobile extension needs a Croissant account, and it's only supported on iPhone (iOS).

  2. Set Safari as your default browser: Settings → Apps → Safari → Default Browser App → Safari.

Turn on the extension

  1. Open Safari and tap the page menu icon in the address bar (just left of the web address).

  2. Tap Manage Extensions, then toggle Croissant on (it should turn green).

  3. When the permissions popup appears, tap Always Allow.

  4. Then tap Always Allow on Every Website.

Don't see the permission popup? Tap the page menu icon again and open Manage Extensions — an exclamation mark next to Croissant means permissions still need review.

Why "Always Allow on Every Website"?

Safari's popup warns that an extension could read sensitive info — that's Apple's standard wording for any extension. Croissant needs access to the sites you shop so it can show buyback values across all 100+ supported brands, but it only ever reads basic item details on supported merchants (see the privacy note below) — never passwords, payment info, or anything on other sites.

Chrome (desktop)

  1. Install the Croissant extension from the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Create or sign in to your Croissant account to start shopping with the extension.

  3. On a supported brand's site, look for the "Activate Buybacks" popup and activate it before checkout so all eligible items are added to your Collection.

What the extension can see

To offer buybacks, the extension reads basic item details — price, brand, item name, color, and merchant — and only on our list of supported merchants. It doesn't collect browsing or shopping data from any other site, and it never stores anything beyond that item information.
