Buybacks 101: What They Are and How to Get Them

What a Croissant buyback is, how its value works, and how to earn one.

Written by Croissant Support

A buyback is the resale value Croissant offers on an eligible item — the credit you can get for it when you're ready to sell. Every eligible item you shop or import comes with one.

How the value works

Your buyback value can go up or down as the resale market shifts. It's locked in and guaranteed the moment you start a sale (as long as the item passes our quality standards).

How buybacks work

  1. See the value as you shop — the Croissant extension shows each eligible item's current buyback value before you buy.

  2. Track it in your Collection — after you check out with the extension active (or import past purchases), the item appears in your Collection with its current buyback value.

  3. Sell when you're ready — ship it back with our free prepaid label. Once it passes quality review, the locked-in buyback value is added to your Wallet as credit. See What are Croissant's quality standards?.

How to earn buybacks

Two ways to add buybacks to your Collection:

  • Shop with the extension — activate the Croissant Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (desktop) extension before you check out at a supported retailer. Items are added automatically.

  • Import past purchases — already own eligible items? Import them via Gmail Sync and eligible ones get a buyback value. See Selling items you already own.

What qualifies?

Not every item is eligible. See What items qualify for buybacks?.

What retailers are supported?

Croissant works with 100+ brands and retailers. See the full, current list on our site — Brands & Retailers (Earn Credit view) — or in the Shop tab of the app. New partners are added regularly, so both stay up to date.
