Your Wallet shows a gift card's value at the time it was issued — but Croissant doesn't get real-time updates from retailers as you spend. So the balance in your Wallet may not match what's actually left on the card. Here's how to check the real balance and tidy up cards you've used.
Check your real balance
A few ways to confirm what's left:
In the Croissant app
Open your Wallet and go to your gift cards.
Tap the card to open its details.
Under Activity, tap Check Balance — the current value updates in your account.
With the Croissant extension
Install the Croissant extension — see Set up the Croissant extension.
Open your Wallet in the extension.
Tap the gift card and select Check Balance.
With the retailer's balance checker
Revolve — Check balance
FWRD — Check balance
Remove a used card
Once a card is fully redeemed, you can remove it from your Wallet to keep things tidy: open your Wallet, go to your gift cards, tap the card to open its details, then tap Remove Card at the top right.
What happens if I return an item I bought with a gift card?
Your money isn't lost. When you return an item you paid for with a gift card, the retailer refunds it back to that same gift card — the balance returns to the card you used. Since your Wallet shows the card's original value (not the live balance), check the real balance using the steps above to see the refund. The one exception: if the merchant issues a new gift card during the return, your refund goes onto that new card instead — the merchant will let you know at the time.
Gift card or Credit Drop?
They refund in opposite ways. A gift card refund goes back to your gift card (above). A Credit Drop is different — it's used up on the order and isn't restored if you return it. Not sure which you used? See What Are Credit Drops?.
Because of this, don't remove a gift card from your Wallet until you're sure you won't return or cancel anything you bought with it. Removed one by mistake? The card still exists — see Help! I removed a gift card from my Wallet and we can re-add it to your Wallet.
Seeing an "invalid" message at checkout? That usually means a $0 balance — see Why Does My Gift Card Say "Invalid" at Checkout?.
