What Happens When an Item Isn’t Accepted

If an item isn’t accepted, don’t worry—we’ll let you know why and guide you through the next steps.

Written by Croissant Support

If an item does not meet our quality standards, you’ll be presented with options based on our team’s review.

In some cases, if the flaw is minor and the item is still sellable, you may be offered a reduced buyback amount. Though we still recommend reviewing your items before sending them in. You can view our full quality review guidelines here: What Are Croissant's Quality Standards? All quality review decisions are final and not subject to change.

If your item cannot be sold, you’ll have the option to either donate it to a local organization or have it returned to you at your cost.

You’ll have 72 hours to take action on any item that does not pass inspection:

If offered a reduced buyback:

  • You can accept the reduced buyback or choose to have the item returned to you.

  • If no action is taken within 72 hours, the item will automatically default to accepting the reduced buyback.

If only donation or return options are available:

  • You can choose donation or a return at your cost.

  • If no action is taken within 72 hours, the item will automatically default to being returned to you at your cost.

Please note: Once an option is selected and confirmed, this action cannot be undone. Please take care before confirming. If you need to change the option for any reason contact [email protected].

We’ll Remind You! 🗓️

You’ll receive email reminders during the 72-hour window so you don’t miss any required actions.

How to view and manage items that need your attention

Make Sure Notifications Are Set Up

Check out Set Up Your Notifications to get started.

To navigate to your items that need attention, click on the bell icon on the top right of your Home tab.

Click on your notification to navigate to that item and choose your option depending on the quality review. Below are how you will see two different action needed selections and what each means.

Navigate to Items In Your Payouts Directly

1. Go to the Menu icon in the top right corner and select Sales.

2. You’ll see three tabs: Action Needed, Shipments and Completed. Tap Action Needed.

Once in the Action Needed tab, items requiring action will appear.

  • Confirm Payout applies to reduced buybacks.

  • Confirm Return applies to items eligible to be returned to you.

You can make your selection directly on each item.

🔔 Please Note: All selections are final. If an item defaults to a selection because a selection was not made within the deadline, that decision can't be reversed.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What happens if I send in a matching set and only one piece passes inspection?

  • If a matching set was originally purchased as separate pieces and both items are eligible for sale in your Collection, each piece will be reviewed individually.

If one item passes our quality review and the other does not, you'll receive a payout for the accepted item and be contacted with your available options for the item that did not pass review.

  • Please note that once an item has passed review and been accepted, it cannot be returned to you. For this reason, we strongly recommend inspecting each piece carefully before shipping. Check for stains, pilling, pulls, missing hardware, excessive wear, alterations, and any other condition issues that may impact eligibility.

  • Matching sets are not guaranteed to be accepted or paid out together, as each item is evaluated on its own condition and eligibility.

Return processing timeline

Items you select for Return will be placed in our facility’s return queue. Return processing and USPS pickup typically take 3–5 business days. You can track the status of your return anytime in your Shipments tab.
