How to Use Croissant at Checkout

Written by Croissant Support

When you check out with Croissant at a select partner retailer, you earn 10% back on your whole order — as credit you can use on your next purchase.

How it works

  1. At the retailer's checkout, choose "Continue with Croissant."

  2. Choose how to pay — on the Select How to Pay screen (see below), select your credit balance and any reward or drop, then tap Continue.

  3. Enter your card details — add a card (or Apple Pay / Google Pay). We authorize it for your order total plus 10% to cover tax to confirm funds — this is not a charge yet. Your final charge is the actual tax (usually less) and is never more than the hold.

  4. Go back to the merchant to finalize your order — you'll return to the merchant's Shopify checkout. Your order isn't placed until you complete it there.

  5. Your card is charged only after you complete the order with the merchant.

  6. Earn 10% back — once your order is confirmed, 10% of your total comes back as credit.

What you'll see:

After you choose Continue with Croissant, you land on the Select How to Pay screen. Here's what each option means:

  1. Welcome Reward — a one-time offer for new members (e.g. $100 off $500+). It stays greyed out until your order meets the minimum, then applies automatically.

  2. Redeem Credit — turn this on to apply your available Croissant credit to this order.

  3. Credit Drop — if you have a drop for this retailer, it appears here and applies to your order (subject to its own minimum).

  4. Maximize 10% Back — choose to earn 10% back in credit on this order instead of spending your balance now.

The total at the bottom — "You're Earning $X Credit Back" — updates as you toggle. Tap Continue when you're set.

Why is an offer greyed out?

An offer greys out when your order doesn't meet its minimum — a "$100 off $500+" Welcome Reward won't apply to a $300 order. Reach the minimum and it activates.

If you don't complete your order

You won't be charged. We only authorize (don't capture) your card, so nothing goes through unless you finish on Shopify. Authorization holds drop off in 5–10 business days, depending on your bank. Wondering why the hold looks higher than your cart? That's the 10% we hold for tax — you're charged the actual tax, never more than the hold. See the Croissant Pay FAQ.

Who handles your order

The merchant handles order confirmation, shipping, returns, exchanges, and refunds. Croissant only processes the payment and your 10% back. For anything about your order or a return, contact the merchant directly. If a merchant can not find your order, that typically means the order never went through properly.

When your 10% credit lands

Your credit is added after your order completes, then becomes available once the pending window closes — see Why Is My Credit Pending?.
